Affordable Retro Inspired Makeup: Lips

Please check out the other 2 posts Affordable Retro Inspired Makeup post for the Face and Eyes

I think this one is a bit obvious - red lipstick! But I feel if you have the face and eyes right, you can still have a retro look with a different colour on the lips. I love wearing nude/peach colours on days where red is too much hassle. In the winter time I think a dark red lip looks really nice too.

Matte Lipsticks
MAC have a wide range of Mattes and Rimmel have recently brought out a Matte range with Kate Moss
Matte is probably a great choice if you're going for a genuine look and it lasts long too! It's very drying so a lot of vaseline is needed when you're not wearing makeup however I personally love how it looks. My favourite is MAC's Russian Red, I also love Lady Danger and for a dark/red/purple I also use Diva.

Others
I'm sure almost every brand that produce lipstick do some form of red, I believe it is a pretty timeless colour, so just have a look around! As I mentioned before you can always use a different colour, I love peachy pinks and oranges like MAC's Meltdown and Rimmel do great corals like Coral in Gold and Nude Pink

Tips and tricks
Lip liner is great for lining the lips and also filling them in so the colour is bolder and the lipstick sticks more.
Lipcote - I personally recommend as it keeps red lipsticks from smudging for the most part!
Powder - is great if you don't own Lipcote, add a layer of lipstick, blot, add a little powder, another layer of lipstick etc.
Eating -  This sounds weird but I try and not wear red lipstick if I'm planning on going out for food or eating a lot, however if I just have a sandwich I will tear chunks off rather than take bites because it will smudge and you'll look like you've been drinking cherry-ade

Hope you enjoyed this "mini series"  if  you have any suggestions or tips please let me know in the comments!

Easy retro inspired summer makeup

If you've subscribed to me on YouTube (if not please do!) you may have seen my new video (if not, again, please do!).

I don't always have time for eyeliner in the mornings but I hate just wearing mascara as I always get people saying I look tired! So I thought I'd see if I could wear false lashes without the eyeliner, I got a lot of complements throughout the day and even though my makeup was quite basic and quick to do, I still felt like I'd made an effort!

This post was going to be my entry for Travel Supermarket’s Beauty and The Beach 2 competition however I couldn't get it up in time (boo for exams) However I still wanted to put it up because I thought it was a great idea. I was tagged by the lovely Danniella from Beuty In Japan (click here for her fab entry).

This looks is quite heavy for a holiday look, but I think you could probably wear it in the evening. With a sunny, sandy, beach holiday in mind I went for a bronzed/shimmery look.

Affordable Retro Inspired Makeup: Eyes

Please check my first Affordable Retro Inspired Makeup post for the Face!

In all honesty, if you do a classic winged/flicked/cat-eye with liquid eyeliner, I think your makeup will have a retro edge to it no matter what, however as always there is room for a bit more glamour.

Affordable Retro Inspired Makeup: Face

I fully believe that "retro" inspired makeup (I'm talking 1940s and 1950s here) is flattering on everyone, with any face shape as it is quite versatile, you can wear quite plain for a day to day look or add small elements to make it a lot more glamorous. You can go all out traditional or add a modern twist. I also love it because it is a pretty simple look to achieve (it must be, if I can do it) but I find it looks timeless, classic and polished enough to trick people into thinking you made a lot of effort.

I wanted to do a series of  posts on how to achieve this look in an "affordable" way. I've included products that I use everyday and some that I've read reviews on that I think would go well with this look from my own experience.

Today I'm focusing on the face, click read more for more!

Affordable Retro Inspired Swimwear - George at ASDA

I've always been a big fan of George at ASDA and I always think they do really cute, often retro inspired clothing for very very reasonable prices. Seeing as it's summer and I've recently purchased a gorgeous swimsuit from my local ASDA, I thought I'd have a look on their website to see if they had anymore in their range and they did! Here are my favorites - I can't believe how cheap these items are.

Spotty // Animal // Tropical // Cherry - All £12

I own the cherry one on the far right and I absolutely love it. This style is perfect if, like me, you want to cover your tummy, and because they have hidden "body sculpt" they hide any lumps/bumps you may have. I love a good swimming costume because I think they're more practical and I love being in the water when I'm on holiday.

Purple Polka Top - £8 // Tropical Top £8 // Blue Polka Top - £4
All Bottoms £4

I also found these three beauties! I think ASDA have created a really flattering style here, I rather like how the polka dot ones would cover more "bum-age" haha. Perfect if you want to sun bathe, they'd also look really cute with a sarong!

I have made myself really "in the mood" for a tropical holiday now but unfortunately I've not got one planned! If you are going on holiday this year though have a great time and be sure to check out ASDA!
